Christmas Fabric Gift Bag - Sew

Another fabric gift bag. I messed up in this one, but I think it turned out ok.
Extra exterior fabric, so I did pleats at the handle edging. Then I had to fix the edging, so I did a decorative stitch. Used the same stitch in the straps.

Simple Tote - Sew

Sometimes I just need a simple tote. I've thought about making these but haven't.

I used the leftover material from my tote bag on the previous post.
Sewed sides. Used the wrong stitch, but I like this one. It's a thick zig-zag.
Added handles. Secured under the top fold.
I did some decorative stitches for fun.

Hobo Tote - Sew

Thus claims it's a kit. But really it's just 2 pieces of material and some handles. Found at Walmart.
The instructions are very vague, so I found someone who added dime pictures. It was a PDF and I don't have a link, but it's easy to find.

Changes:
I sewed up the sides because I didn't like then open.
I changed  way the handles were attached, too.
I added a button and a button hole to close the flap.

So here's the photos of my Creative Cuts Hobo Tote.

Vertical Ruffle Skirt - Sew

I bought the material planning to make a horizontal ruffle, but bought the material on line. Not enough to make a maxi skirt. So I decided to make it vertical. I like it better.

Pre-ruffled fabric from fabric.com. Teal color.

This is just two pieces with pockets.  The bottom would have been hard to hem, do I just did an edging stitch but not on the edge, it was too hard, so I did it just of shy of the edge and trimmed the extra fabric. Very heavy fabric to work with.

This photo shows the closest color and the ruffles on it.  I had it hanging for two days so it would ruffle vertical better.

Quick Pin Cushion

Made this before my wrist one (two posts back).

Two 6 inch squares.
Overcast edging, leaving an opening, stuff, and sew closed.

Scrap Fabric Dish Rag

Love this idea. I sewed stripes together and then to the dish rag.

I'd suggest cutting edges off the edges of the dish rag or use a larger one to cut of f. I tried to sew the outside edging together, but it was too thick.

Old towels would be perfect for this project. Upcycle.

Pin Cushion Wrist Holder

Always wanted to make one . Today I was in the mood to make pin cushions and this one came about.

I used scrap material.
Cut a rectangle.
Used a decorative stitch for the boarder.
Stuffed with fiber fill.
Sewed up opening.
Trimmed with pinking shears.
Measured for elastic, also scrap from other projects. Shorter then needed.
Sewed on, using the 3 stitch straight stitch.

Christmas Gift Bag--Sewing

I decided to try a Christmas gift bag.

I'm putting my measurements here so I can find it again. I want to make more.

I cut the fabric, main and lining, 2 pieces each:
18 inches long.
14 inches wide.
Straps, 2:
18 inches long
6 inches wide.

These measurements can because that's how big of Christmas fabric I had.  It was almost the size of a paper gift bag I bought. Ended up a little bigger then the paper one, but I'm ok with that. So I'm not sure how much fabric.

I used white fabric for the lining, because I have some nice white fabric.

I didn't use any interweaving, the white fabric is fairly thick. But for thin fabric, I'd use interfacing unless I want a bag that folds up easily (like one to carry stuff to work in, then fold up to put in my purse).

I sewed the bag material, right sides together, sewing 3 sides, for the outside and lining of the bag.
I did corners on the bottom measuring up 2 inches. I just cut off the corners,I didn't want to deal with them. I wanted a quick bag.

The straps are just the main fabric, no interfacing. I folded in half lengthwise, ironed, unfolded, fooled each side to the center crease, ironed, folded in half again and ironed. Sewed a straight stitch on each side lengthwise. Sewed onto bag 4 inches from the edge.

Placing the bag together with the straps, I folded down the top and sewed around.

Fleece Beret - Sewing

Made the beret to match my mittens from my last post.

$3 blanket (fabric) from Target that I used from the last post. It's the dark brown color. Taking light brown shows up better in photos.
Pattern Simplicity 9781.

The brim didn't fit exactly (beginning to wonder about thus pattern), so I cut it down.

Crochet UFO and WIP

Yes I'm still crocheting. But things have become UFOs.
