Quilted Bag-- Sewn-- Image Heavy

I decided I needed to practice larger sections for free motion quilting, so I decided to do a bag. I also thought it might be a good idea to follow a printed pattern on the fabric.  Although I have some really cute fabric I would like to do a bag out of and will probable do that.

I used the pattern from Quilters Almanac 2011 magazine, but changed it of course.
Mine ended up 13 inches wide by 13 1/2 inches tall. I didn't measure the straps but they're long and I like that.

The front is quilted just to the batting. The brown lining is cotton from my brown wrap skirt I wore once, didn't like, and washed to
reuse the fabric. I will make another wrap skirt, but make it different.

Now all the pics...

Below shows before it was quilted:

January SAL-- Skirt

On Ralvery's board Sew Obsessed we're doing a year a long Sew A Long and each mine is a new clothing item. January is a skirt. Of course people can make anything they want just as long as they stretch their skills. Mine is making more then skirts and the same pattern skirt.

This is a variation on Simplicity 1784. I didn't want to do a zipper as my weight flutchuates and so I need elastic waist, so I had to adjust the pattern . I also didn't like that the center piece was wider then the side pieces, so I did all 6 gores the same size. I also added pockets. I took a picture with a tape measure to show the bottom is 19 inches.

Several pics below.
Here's a link to the pattern if you're interested to see it: 1784 Sewing Pattern

The skirt is the lighter brown color.

Granny Stripe Boutique Bag-- Crochet

I need a little bag to carry my cell phone and money in for lunches with friends when we meet up. this bag will do the job.

I haven't added a flower yer, as I want to choose the lining and match it. But I'll probably do a white flower.

Payyern: http://www.tangledhappy.com/2010/11/granny-stripe-boutique-bag.html?m=1
I changed it by working on the other side of the chain so I wouldn't have to sew up the bottom. I also changed it by SL ST the ends then working in the previous space on every other rounds, this way the ends would all be on the side.
Hook: I used an H hook because I crochert loose.
Yarn: Red Heart WW. Takes very little. Would be great for scrap yarn and gifts.

Found this link on how to line these types of bags: http://www.tangledhappy.com/2012/02/how-to-sew-fabric-liner-for-granny-bag.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+TangledHappy+(tangled+happy)&m=1

Chenille Like Crocheted Scarf

Found this yarn at a dollar store. I bought 4 skiens of 3 different shades and this is the browns.

It was really hard to photograph, even with a bit of sun.

Hook P hook.
I did 11 ch, 1st row SC, then each row after in DC.
Not as long as I would like, but thats fine. This is an early Christmas gift. I wasn't as prepared last year so I'm getting ahead this year.

Blue Potholder With The Letter D

I wanted to practice some more loops. I decided the lower case "d" in cursive could work.

First I started from the top, but then realized I could not see the row above , so I cut the thread and started from the bottom and worked up. I had to work from the left to the right. Then I did loops over the row of D's to bring the potholder back to the left side for the next row of D's.

I did the edging in free-motion sewing loops. More loop practice.

I discovered if I decide to do these as gifts when I get better I need to make sure the fronts match if I do quilt blocks. The blocks themselves don't match, but since it's just for me, I don't care.

Blue Potholder With My Name Sewen In - Free Motion Quilting

Trying free motion quilting again. I remembered I had these quilt block i never did anything with. I found some pillowcases I bought from a second hand store. Used thst for the back & edge.

Trying loops for this try.

Did you notice my name? :) I saw other quilts with names and words and decided to try this.

Yes I still need practice, but it's still fun.

The stitch to keep the edge on is a decorative stitch my machine has.

Peace & Love Bag Sewn

I bought this material to do some sort of hippie type custom for Halloween. I couldn't think what to do, so I just didn't do anything (I wore black and went as a witch).

Decided I needed another bag and I love this print.
I put some Red Heart yarn to show how big this is.
I accidentally cut the straps in half, however that worked so the wording was the right side upon both sides.
The close up photo was taken with flash, but shows the print so well (I made it my wallpaper on my cell phone).
Straps are sewn at the side. Almost a messanger bag.

Washcloth Snowman

Just to try something out, I sewed a snowman from a washcloth.

For the hat, I used two 4 inch squares, sewed together and hemed.
Scarf, I used two 4 inch sqaured folded in fours, sewed together to form one long piece.

Snowman, I actually just free motioned a half snowman and the cut around. I left the top open to stuff and dared to machine sew it close.

Used a sharpie to "draw" the face.
